SOURCING STORY
Pulcal is located in the picturesque Antigua valley, Guatemala. Here Maria Zelaya, 3rd generation owner and producer has been producing fantastic coffees for over 50 years. On her farm lie 80 year old avocado trees as well as a section that actively produces dairy products like milk and cheese. It’s been in the Zelaya family for over 100 years. The name comes from the word “Pulke” which is an alcoholic beverage that used to be made at the farm; it is similar to Mezcal and Tequila. Coffee from Pulcal is exported by the nearby Bella Vista mill which is managed by Luis Pedro Zelaya, Maria’s nephew. A trained agronomist and 4th generation coffee producer, Luis and his team are elevating the coffee quality year after year as well as providing education and work for the surrounding community. We’ve happily worked with the Zelaya family and Bella Vista for many years and they continue to deliver clean, complex and delicious coffees.
